Violet Wands FAQ:

Please Note: This is a guide and not a product, you cannot purchase this, its just here to help :-)

What does a violet wand feel like?

They pretty much feel like a jolt of static electricity, such as when you pet your cat and the spark jumps to your skin. But violetwands are adjustable, so it can go from erotic tingles that feel like you are in an alka-seltzer bath, with the sparks fizzing lushly over your skin, all the way up to sharp shocks. There is a wide range of physical sensations you can achieve, depending on the setting, technique used and accessories, so they can feel like soft bubbles or like a knife cutting.

Is a violetwand safe?

Violet wands are the safest electrical sex toy, with the fewest statistical injuries reported. However, you do have to take simple safety precautions, like keeping the wand from getting in water, just like any electrical appliance. Check the safety information in the beginners guide for important considerations.

How do wands work?

Ordinary household electricity is a low frequency alternating current and is hazardous to come into direct contact with. The Violet Wand "transforms" the high voltage household current by a two-stage process with a magnetic resonator and then a capacitor (known in combination as a Tesla coil) into a very low watt, low amperage, and high frequency charge that has little affect on the human body. The vacuum annealed, heat treated glass electrodes are filled with argon (and sometimes other gas) under low pressure, that creates the purple glow when it is excited by electricity. The glass electrodes also effectively isolate the charge within. What comes off the end of the glass electrodes behaves as direct current electricity that jumps to an uncharged source. The electrical charge you receive from a glass violet wand electrode is similar to static electricity that you receive a shock from when walking across a carpeted floor. The difference is that violet wands produce a continuous stream of electrical charge rather than a single static spark.

Why are some electrodes different colors?

Just like neon signs use different gasses to glow different colors, so do wand electrodes. Violet wand glass electrodes, in fact, glow for the very same reason that neon signs do; noble gas is excited by the electricity and it glows. At other times the electrodes have actually been made with different colored glass. The Deluxe kits definitely have the most interesting electrodes.

What is the "Skin effect?"

The term does not refer to human skin.
In short, it is a complicated electrical engineering/physics formula, that defines how deep a specific high frequency of electrical current will penetrate into a given solid, conductive substance, such as copper. The resultant "skin depth" is based upon diameter of the conductive material, its resistance, and magnetic permeability.
The measurement for "skin depth," is that point at which an electrical charge ceases to penetrate at its full power and the current begins to rapidly decrease with increased depth. That means that electricity STILL penetrates past the "skin depth" measurement even when the measured "skin depth" is small.
Unfortunately, The Skin Effect does not fully apply to the human body, either in practical demonstrations or by applying the Skin Depth Formula to measurable human variables. We know today, that rather than falling entirely under the scope of the "Skin Effect," many other things are also at work to keep us safe when playing with violet wands. Violet wand electricity is of sufficiently high frequency that it does not affect the human body, in the same way that high frequencies of sound cannot be heard. This high frequency, combined with other factors such as the specific "resistance" of human skin (eletrical resistance as measured in ohms per meter), make it possible to play with violet wand electricity safely.
